A Tribute to Bruce from his Dad

A tribute to Bruce, from his Dad. Reading all the heart-felt thoughts on Bruce’s website, so lovingly penned by you guys who knew him over these, the most recent of years, are indeed as pearls from heaven to Anne and me, his parents, which lighten our days immeasurably in the knowledge that he was so well loved and thought of by all who knew him. You can’t imagine what pride we feel to hear such words of kindness about Bruce, our blue-eyed blonde baby; for that’s what he was to us so many years ago. But like all babies, and young boys, they soon grow up and become young men, and as young men, they have to go off into the big wide world on their own, and do their own thing. And then their parents can only hope and pray that they’ll do the right thing; be the right sort of person; and grow into mature adulthood, being a credit to their parents in everything they do. We were so lucky to have three such lovely handsome sons, who never gave us any cause for concern when growing up, and thankfully all became such well adjusted pleasant young men. But growing-up in the shadow of his two elder brothers (and father!), Bruce did at first find it difficult to shine, being the youngest of four men in the home, being rather shy at first, until that was he realised his full potential as the handsomest man in the room, since when he has never looked back! My heart goes out to Michelle and Kallum in these weeks of mourning and loneliness at the loss of Bruce – their man, for we all now know how much Michelle and Bruce loved each other – the perfect pair, someone said. And as for Bruce’s parents that’s, Anne and me, well, we grieve also, but differently; mostly of abject sadness, for being much older than you all, we have witnessed death of loved ones on previous occasions, including Bruce’s older brother (who he never knew) Stephen, who died in 1964. Thank you all for your loving comments; and for supporting Michelle and Kallum; and thank you for loving Bruce. I would like to meet you all some day. Ray Turley.
